Porcelain Dental Veneers / Laminates

Porcelain Veneers - A Solution for Anterior Dental Esthetic Defects

At present, esthetics has become an essential part of patients’ expectations in dentistry. Because their smile has a significant bearing on their professional and social lives, patients are taking an increasing interest in restoring and improving the esthetic appearance of their teeth. In recent years, advances in porcelain technology have allowed for fabrication of ultra-thin veneers which are bonded and affixed to the natural teeth. Nowadays patients can expect to enhance their smiling line with minimally invasive procedures, thanks to devices like the operating microscope and innovative instruments and porcelain materials.

Porcelain veneers and laminates are considered to be a relatively conservative form of treatment, insofar as they involve only a part of coronal tooth structure (mainly the anterior aspect).

The thickness of the porcelain veneer ranges from 0.3-0.9 mm, in contrast to a full crown which requires complete tooth reduction. Because removal of only a very thin layer of the enamel is required for fabrication of the porcelain veneer, the resulting translucency provides the natural appearance. Removal of tooth structure is minimal and confined mainly to the anterior aspect, thereby preserving tooth vitality and avoiding the need for root canal treatment.

For the most part, porcelain veneers are placed in the anterior part of the oral cavity and mainly on anterior teeth of patients who wish to enhance their smile.
